SURCA 2023 Applications Open to WSU Undergraduates through Feb. 21

Washington State University undergraduates can submit abstracts from Dec. 5through Feb. 21 to present their research, scholarships, and creative activities on March 27 at the 2023 Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) .

“SURCA 2023 will give students from every major, campus, and year in college the chance to share the results of their efforts with a mentor that made original intellectual or creative contributions in their field,” said Jeremy Lessmann, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. A student points out results on their poster during a SURCA presentation.Washington State University undergraduates can submit abstracts now through Feb. 22 to present posters on March 28 at the annual Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) 2022.

“SURCA 2022 will give students from every major, campus, and year in college the chance to share the results of their efforts with a mentor that made original intellectual or creative contributions in their field,” said Mary Sánchez Lanier, assistant vice provost. SURCA is overseen by the Office of Undergraduate Research, part of the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement in the provost’s office.

SURCA 2020 Abstract Book Posted Online

PULLMAN, Wash.—The Showcase for Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) 2020 abstract book of student projects is now available online, said Shelley Pressley, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. It is part of the Division of Academic Engagement and Student Achievement at Washington State University.

In anticipation of the March 30 Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA), around 250 students submitted nearly 200 abstracts summarizing their work and results from mentored research, scholarship, and creative pursuits. Precautions associated with COVID-19, the novel coronavirus, led to SURCA 2020’s cancellation.

Portrait photo of Kevin SchillingPULLMAN, Wash.—The sixth annual Washington State University Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) is set for 3:30 p.m. Mon., March 27 in the Compton Union Building M.G. Carey Senior Ballroom. Awards will begin at 5:00 p.m. in the CUB Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

SURCA is the unique opportunity for students from all majors, grades, and campuses to present their mentored research, scholarship, and creative activities on posters, and win awards in eight categories that same day. It’s presented by the Office of Undergraduate Research, part of WSU Undergraduate Education. This year, SURCA is the first event of the WSU Showcase Week.
