WSU SURCA Gives 49 Undergraduates 43 Research Awards at Showcase

PULLMAN, Wash.—More than one-third of the Washington State University students presenting posters at the Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) 2022 on March 28 will receive monetary awards for their top-quality efforts.
SURCA is the unique WSU-wide venue for students from all majors, years in college, and all WSU campuses to share their mentored research, scholarship, and creative activities, and have judges evaluate their work shown on a poster. At this year’s event, around 140 students from four campuses were among those accepted to present 112 posters to 90 judges. Faculty, postdoctoral students, and community experts used a common rubric to evaluate and score presentations across nine SURCA categories.
At the awards ceremony, 43 students from WSU Pullman and Vancouver and the Global Campus were announced as recipients of 33 awards. In total, nearly $8,000 will be given to them to support the efforts. » More …
More than a quarter of Washington State University students who delivered virtual presentations won monetary awards at the annual Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) on March 29 in Pullman.
SURCA is the unique WSU-wide venue for students from all majors, years in college, and from all WSU campuses. Nearly 150 students from the Pullman, Vancouver, Spokane, and Global campuses delivered presentations detailing their research, scholarship, and creative activities conducted with a mentor.
Faculty, postdoctoral students, and community experts used a common rubric to judge and score all presentations in nine SURCA categories that are designed to cover all disciplines at the university. At the awards ceremony March 30, 52 students were announced as the recipients of 33 awards.

Heading into the afternoon event, 206 students from five campuses had been accepted to present 167 posters detailing their research, scholarship, and creative activity conducted with a mentor. Faculty, postdoctoral students, and community experts used a common rubric to judge and score all presentations in eight SURCA categories that cover all disciplines at the college.
At the concluding awards ceremony, 46 students were announced as the recipients of a total of 37 awards; one student received two awards. Awardees are from Pullman, the Global Campus, and campuses in Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver. » More …
Of the 256 Washington State University students accepted to present 213 posters at the seventh annual Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) event April 2, 54 took home 44 awards for their top presentations across eight categories.
At this WSU-wide venue for students from all majors, there were 20 winners of 17 $300 crimson awards, the highest possible; 27 winners of 20 $200 gray awards, the second-highest; 6 winners of 6 $100 novice awards, for students with up to two semesters of research work and who show exceptional promise; and, 1 recipient of 1 $100 early career award, given to freshmen and sophomores only. » More …

PULLMAN, Wash.—Of Washington State University’s 225 students presenting 205 posters at the sixth annual Showcase for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities (SURCA) on March 27, 61 received a total of 54 awards for their exceptional presentations.
There were 21 winners of 20 crimson awards, the highest; 23 winners of 19 gray awards, the second-highest; 12 recipients of 10 novice awards, for students who worked up to two semesters on their research and who show exceptional promise; and, 5 recipients of 5 early career awards, given to freshmen and sophomores only. One student won two awards.
