Welcome to SURCA 2021!  Available in a virtual format this year, SURCA is WSU's only venue to showcase the research, scholarship, and creative activity of all undergraduates from all majors on all campuses. 3:00-4:15 p.m.: Student Presentations.  Students will deliver their presentations to judges and the public during this time block. 4:30-5:30 p.m.: Q&A with Students and Judges only. Student moderators at SURCA are required to attend one of the two training sessions available during the week before the virtual showcase. The content at both workshops will be exactly the same—timing, room management, navigation, FAQ among attendees, and capturing event photos for archival purposes.

Judges’ Sign-up Deadline for SURCA 2021

SURCA depends on the expertise of judges from faculty, post-doc, and professional ranks. Volunteers benefit from interacting with undergraduates who are eager and proud to share their efforts; volunteers also serve as representatives from their field, program, and college. Deadline for Emeritus Society Award Application

The WSU Emeritus Society makes awards to top SURCA presenters five categories. Applications for these awards must be made separately from the SURCA application; but only students who have applied to SURCA are eligible for Emeritus Society awards.

Workshop on “Making an Effective Oral Presentation”

Because SURCA 2021 will be virtual due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, all presenters regardless of topic will present their research orally with support from a PowerPoint presentation--no posters are required this year. In this workshop, you will learn (and get best-practice tips) on how to deliver an effective presentation that covers all aspects of your project, work, and results (if applicable).

Deadline for SURCA 2021 Abstract Submission

Your "abstract" is a concise description of your research, scholarship, and creative activity--collectively called "research."  In up to 350 words, the abstract is written in such a way that a general or lay audience will understand your work but with enough detail to fully explain your project. The conventions of what should go into your abstract are generally set by your field--your faculty mentor will provide guidance.
